A Year of Growth
I hope you are all finding your way along a path that has light that's growing brighter every day.
My journey this past year has been filled with appreciation, art and helping others.
While working for the United Way as a Community Builder last year, supporting those struggling with COVID, there were some opportunities to assist community members with United Way Local Love funded projects. A few of the projects were art-related, created to bring neighbours together, even if it was just virtually. I enjoyed helping with the assembling of art kits for distribution and watching people having fun 'together'.
After a bit of a time out to process the global situation, art resumed in my life in a thoughtful way. I tried new art practices and some things that I'd left behind many years ago. It was good to have time to discover and re-discover different forms of art. I took clay handbuilding classes again, in which produced several pieces. With a gift certificate I won from Opus Art Supplies, I purchased a pyrography tool kit; it has a lot more options than the one-tip tool I inherited from my Mom in the seventies! I also did some small leatherwork pieces, with pyrography designs.
Throughout this, I - like so many others - learned to appreciate what and who we have. It was hard not to encounter our family's and friend's energies in person, but we adapted, with the hope of hugs in our futures.
For now, I'll keep making art, keep helping others and keep making art.
Pictured here is my latest endeavour - a hand painted tile that will be part of a 1000 tile national mosaic mural.
